“Not only did Sara help me feel confident and prepared to lead group sessions, but I'm also already seeing a remarkable return on this investment. My clients are thriving in the group settings, and my practice has gained a new dimension of growth and engagement.”
Suri started a SPACE group to help parents of anxious children
Had 5 couples enrolled in the first round and 4 in the second round.
Suri charged $150 per week per couple and each group is 7 weeks. This means that each round of Suri’s group brought in $5,250 for the first round and $4200 for the second round (for 7 hours of her time).
Suri was able to make between $600-$750 an hour on her group!
Suri now also runs DBT-C group for parents, and has 8 couples enrolled per group!
“Sara has a unique ability to break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand strategies, and her supportive and encouraging approach made all the difference. I wholeheartedly recommend Sara to any therapist looking to expand their practice into the group space and make a meaningful impact on their clients' lives!” - Suri Nowosiolski, LCSW, MSpEd; @heartsandmindsforkids

“Because of my groups, I have been able to see fewer individual clients and diversify my work schedule with more things that energize me and I also got more individuals as a result of it. Overall I found your workshop so helpful and tangible. I love having a group offering as part of my practice and want to keep adding more.”
Rebecca started a Women’s Empowerment group that she originally started as a 6-week group, then ran a second round as a 10-week group, then transitioned her group into an ongoing process group of the same members
Rebecca had 4 people enrolled in the first round, 6 in the second round, and 6 in the current ongoing group
Rebecca was able to bring in an additional $1840 per month from this group alone

A note from Sara:
I became a group therapist completely by chance.
I had just found out that my grant-funded hospital job was losing its funding, and then a month later I found out I was pregnant with my second child.
I was freaking out trying to find a new job (one that offered maternity leave benefits?!) and ended up learning about a job position at a group private practice not too far from where I was living at the time. The position I interviewed and ultimately got the job for was the “Director of Group Therapy”.
Upon beginning the job, I dove into learning everything I could about group therapy while simultaneously learning how to market my first three groups.
I didn’t have any clients at first, so I turned marketing my groups into my full time job. After two months of marketing, I had 14 clients enrolled and was ready to start! My groups were time-limited and I timed them to end a week before my due date. When I returned from maternity leave a couple months later, I started two teen girls groups the week I was back, since I used my time off to repeat the marketing strategies I had used successfully the first time around. Those groups had 7 clients in one and 4 in the other, and lasted well longer than the 12 weeks I had initially planned.
Now, 5 years later, I have become a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP), meaning that I have over 300 hours of group experience, have taken the necessary coursework, and received 75 hours of group-specific supervision. I am also a member of two process groups for myself!
Through running group after group, going from time limited groups to ongoing process groups, and finessing my exact marketing, screening, intake and group process, I have learned that group therapy is one of the most lucrative ways to make money in our field. I was able to make close to 6-figures just from running four groups a week in my practice for a year, and that was on top of the 20 individual clients I was already seeing a week.
Reflecting on my journey, it’s incredible to see how chance led me to discover my true calling. What began as a scramble for a new job and a balancing act between maternity leave and a career transition has evolved into a deeply fulfilling profession. Becoming a CGP and continuing to refine my skills has shown me the profound impact that group therapy can have. The experience has not only been financially rewarding but has also been immensely satisfying on a personal and professional level. I’m grateful for the unexpected path that led me here, and I’m excited to continue helping others through the transformative power of group therapy.
